EV charger being installed in a Melbourne garage

What a good install looks like

Concealed cable runs through the wall cavity or roof space, a dedicated RCBO on the switchboard, weather-rated housing on exterior installs, and a neat final finish. No visible conduit snaking down brickwork.

We commission on-site, pair the charger to your phone app, and show you how to schedule off-peak charging before we leave.

Real questions we get

How much does an EV home charger install cost in Melbourne?

Price depends on the charger, switchboard capacity, circuit protection, cable route, mounting, communications and any required load management. Use the instant quote workflow for an initial estimate, followed by site confirmation where required.

Do I need 3-phase power for a home EV charger?

Not necessarily. Many homes use single-phase charging. The right arrangement depends on the vehicle's onboard charger, the selected unit, existing supply capacity, household loads and charging goals.

Can you install a Tesla Wall Connector?

Yes. We install Tesla Wall Connectors for compatible vehicles and assess the electrical supply, protection, cable route and manufacturer requirements before quoting.

Do I need an electrician or can I self-install?

A hardwired charger and its dedicated electrical circuit must be installed, tested and connected by an appropriately licensed electrician. Carbon Group holds A-grade licence A62716.

Is there a government rebate for EV chargers in Victoria?

Government, network and retailer offers can change. Check the current eligibility rules and tariff terms directly with the relevant provider before relying on a rebate or discount.

How long does an EV charger installation take?

Timing depends on the charger, switchboard, cable route, access, protection and any load-management work. We confirm the expected installation window with the accepted scope.

EV charging with solar and a home battery

Charge on sunshine

If you've got solar, a smart charger pays itself back fastest. The myenergi Zappi and Evnex E2 Core both divert surplus solar into your car instead of exporting it for a few cents. We set the solar mode on-site and show you how to read it.

Battery-ready installs

Already running a home battery like a Tesla Powerwall or Sungrow? We'll wire your charger on a dedicated circuit with load management so the house, battery and charger share the available current without tripping. No guesswork, no upgraded switchboard you didn't need.

Off-peak scheduling

Every charger we install gets its app paired and an off-peak schedule programmed before we leave, so it fills up overnight on the cheapest tariff. We'll show you how to check what your off-peak window costs.

EV charging for apartments and strata

Most apartment EV installs in Melbourne come down to two things: where the cable runs, and who pays for the switchboard capacity. We handle both.

  • Owner's corporation consultations and written scope for body corporate approval
  • Load-balanced multi-charger setups using shared infrastructure (OCPP chargers like the Teltonika EVC2)
  • Individual metering so each owner pays for their own power
  • Concealed, fire-rated cable runs through common property

We've installed in everything from single-car garages to multi-unit blocks across the eastern suburbs. Bring us in early — before the OC vote — and we'll spec it properly the first time.

EV charger wired into a Melbourne switchboard with a dedicated RCBO

Is your switchboard EV-ready?

An EV charger is one of the biggest single loads you can add to a home. Before we quote a price, we check your switchboard — because the right answer depends entirely on what's already there.

Older ceramic-fuse boards

Homes in Kew, Camberwell and Hawthorn often still run rewireable or ceramic-fuse boards. These can't safely take a 7kW load — we'll quote a switchboard upgrade to current AS/NZS 3000 as part of the job, with RCBO protection on the charger circuit.

Modern boards with spare ways

If your board is already RCBO-protected with a spare way, the charger usually drops straight in. This is often closer to the straightforward install — most homes built or rewired in the last 15 years are here.

Three-phase homes

Already got three-phase to the house? You can run a 22kW charger for the fastest home charging available. We'll confirm phase balance and load-share across existing circuits before recommending a unit.

Not sure which one you are? Request an assessment and quote — call 0468 403 129 or book a quote and we'll tell you straight.

What Melbourne EV owners say

★★★★★

"Highly recommend Carbon Group. All we wanted was the supply and installation of an EV charger. Out of 4 contractors Brandon was the only one to visit the site, assess the switchboard and provide a detailed spec and fixed price. Others provided super cheap prices and complex provisos and 'contracts' including 'free switchboard review' which guaranteed a variation the moment they arrived on site. Brandon installed and commissioned the unit within three days of accepting the quote including connection to Wi-Fi, and even returned a few days later to check on things. Very professional, efficient and thorough."

"Very prompt to respond to all queries and requests. Very accommodating with my availability. Very professional and trustworthy. They explain all information I needed in the way I can understand. Brandon and Alex had done an excellent job installing my EV charger and also updated a couple of parts in my fuse box. Brandon is the main person I spoke with and he is extremely helpful, courteous, knowledgeable, patient and understanding. I highly recommend them. Competitive pricing, very respectful, very satisfactory work and generous on important info and EV charger advise. Thank you."
