What we do

We remove your old ceramic fuse box or outdated board and install a modern circuit breaker panel with safety switches (RCDs) on every circuit. All wiring is checked, circuits are labelled, and we issue a Certificate of Electrical Safety (COE) for your records and insurance.

Common questions

How much does a switchboard upgrade cost in Melbourne?

Most residential switchboard upgrades in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs sit between $900 and $1,800 depending on the number of circuits, whether earthing upgrades are needed, and your existing wiring condition. We give you a flat price on-site before any work starts.

Do I need a switchboard upgrade?

If your switchboard has ceramic fuses, no safety switches (RCDs), or regularly trips — it needs upgrading. Victorian regulations require safety switches on all new and upgraded switchboards. Older boards also can’t support EV chargers or air conditioning circuits safely.

How long does a switchboard upgrade take?

Most upgrades are completed in 3–5 hours. We work Monday to Saturday, 7am–7pm, and weekends at no extra charge.

Is a switchboard upgrade required before installing an EV charger?

Often yes. If your existing board has ceramic fuses or no spare circuit capacity, an upgrade is required before we can safely add a dedicated EV charger circuit. We assess this on-site before quoting.

Do you issue a Certificate of Electrical Safety?

Yes. Every switchboard upgrade is followed by a Certificate of Electrical Safety (COE) issued to Energy Safe Victoria — this is a legal requirement in Victoria and your proof that the work was done to code.

Can I stay home during the upgrade?

Yes, though power will be off for 1–3 hours during the switchover. We’ll let you know exactly when before we start.

Residential switchboard upgrades in Melbourne's east typically range from $900 to $1,800. Price depends on circuit count and whether earthing upgrades are needed. Flat quote on-site before any work starts.

“Ceramic fuse boxes aren’t just outdated — they’re a genuine safety risk. A modern board with RCDs on every circuit is one of the best things you can do for your home, and it’s required by law on any upgraded switchboard in Victoria.”
